BIMT’s Eco Promise

Introduction

BIMT Campus proudly launches “BIMT’s Eco Promise” , a landmark national initiative to plant 100,000 trees across all nine provinces of SriLanka.

THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVE ARE,

To Restore ecosystems,
To Support food security, and
To Drive economic and environmental sustainability.

The campaign began with a press conference on June 4th, 2025, at the BIMT Campus Auditorium. On June 5th, 2025 coinciding with World Environment Day the project was officially launched through a series of press releases, marking the formal start of this national initiative.

As part of a nationwide initiative to plant 100,000 trees, the first phase of the first round will commence in July 2025, starting in the Western Province with the plantation of 3,000 trees across the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara districts.

The program will be implemented in three rounds, each consisting of nine phases, gradually expanding to cover the entire country.

Site Selection

Identification of suitable lands and assessment of ecological suitability per district will be supported by Central Environment Authority and local governments. NGOs and youth organization and Sports Clubs.

Planningand Coordination

District – specific strategies developed with Central Environment Authority and local governments, NGOs and youth organization and Sports Clubs.

Community Engagement

Mobilization of students, local organizations, and Volunteers.
Training and workshops on tree planting, care, and environmental education.

Planting Phases

The first phase of the first round will commence in July 2025, starting in the Western Province with the plantation of 3,000 trees across the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara districts.
Expansion phase-wise to the remaining provinces through 2025–2026.

Monitoring and Maintenance

To ensure the trees stay healthy and grow well, we will use simple digital tools and community reporting to track their progress. Green Ambassadors will be appointed in each district to take care of the trees and guide local efforts.
They will work closely with local environmental committees, who will also carry out regular follow-ups to support and maintain the plantations.

5 Green Ambassadors will be appointed in each district to oversee and
maintain the planted trees.

Monthly Reporting

Green Ambassadors will submit monthly reports detailing the status and health of the trees in their respective districts.

Recognition and Rewards

Tree donors and Green Ambassadors will be awarded Certificates of Appreciation, signed by Mr. Angelo Mathews, renowned cricketer and the Brand Ambassador of the initiative.
Educational scholarships from BIMT Campus will be awarded to selected Green Ambassadors demonstrating exceptional commitment.
Every 4 months, outstanding GreenAmbassadors will be rewarded or recognized for their contribution.
